RIO VERDE, Ariz. - The Ohio University women's golf team improved its standing from 13th place to ninth on the second day of the 12th annual Rio Verde Invitational, carding a 312 to up its total score to 626 (+58) on Saturday (March 8) at the Rio Verde Country Club's Quail Run course.
Xavier sits in first place after totaling a 298 in the second round, bringing its total to 601 (+33). Wichita State (603; +35) and Montana (604; +36) are in second and third place, respectively. Six individuals sit in a tie for sixth place.
Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) posted a 79, bringing her total to 156 (+14) and putting her in a tie for 31st. Sophomore Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) is also tied for 31st after recording a 77 - a two-stroke improvement from the first round.
Freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) is in a tie for 40th after carding a 78, bringing her total to 157 (+15) for a one-stroke improvement from the first round.
Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) totaled an 80, giving her a total score of 159 (+17) to tie her for 49th.
Alternate sophomore Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) posted an 85 to bring her total score to 163 (+21), good enough for a tie for 71st place. Junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) is also tied for 71st after carding a 78 - a seven-stroke improvement from the first round.
Final round action is slated to begin Sunday (March 9) at 10 a.m. ET.
