Rio Verde Final
RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Ohio University Women’s Golf Team ended play at the 2013 Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats dropped one stroke from their first-round score of 318 on Sunday, finishing in 16th place with a total team score of 635.
Northern Arizona claimed the top spot at the tournament, shooting a two-round score of 597. Xavier was a close second, scoring 600 through the two rounds of play. Arkansas-Little Rock and Eastern Michigan tied for third, each shooting two-round scores of 601.
Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) and Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) led the way for the Bobcats, shooting two-round scores of 156 to end the tournament tied for 43rd place. Codian made a massive improvement from Saturday to Sunday, shaving eight strokes off her first-round score of 82.
Finishing next for the Bobcats was Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio). The junior ended the tournament tied for 66th place, shooting a two-round score of 159. Helmsdoerfer dropped three strokes from her first-round score of 81, finishing with a 78 on the second and final day.
Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) and Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) rounded out things for the Bobcats, finishing 86th and 87th, respectively. Lechner shot a two-round score of 165 while Tranelli scored a 166.
Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) placed fifth in the individual competition, shooting 84-84 to end the tournament with a score of 168.
The Bobcats will next be in action on March 17-19 at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational in Ocala, Fla.
