MSU Ocala Day One 
OCALA, Fla. – Kara Brinkmann of the Ohio University Women’s Golf Team had a tremendous day on the links Sunday. The junior currently leads the field of 82 golfers at the 2013 MSU Ocala Spring Invitational after shooting a career-best round of 69 strokes.
Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) ended Sunday three strokes under par and paced an Ohio squad which currently sits 14th through one round of play with a team score of 320. Not only was Brinkmann’s mark a career best, but it beat her prior mark of 73 by four strokes.
The junior’s single-round score of 69 ties for the third best score recorded in the history of Ohio’s program. The all-time low of 66 was set by Julie Tomlinson at the Wachovia-Great Smokies tournament during the 2005-06 season.
Mercer holds the top spot after the first day of play, shooting a team score of 293. Stetson is not far behind, carding a combined score of 297 on Sunday.
Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) was Ohio’s next finisher, tying for 24th place with a score of 76. She was followed by Kristen Helmsdoerfer (T-75th, 86 strokes) and Sarah Tranelli (T-78th, 89 strokes). Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) rounded out Ohio’s first day, ending in 81st place with a first-round score of 91.
The Bobcats will next be in action at the MSU Ocala Invitational on Monday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
