MSU Ocala Day Two
OCALA, Fla. – Kara Brinkmann of the Ohio University Women’s Golf Team continued to pace the Green and White at the 2013 MSU Ocala Invitational on Monday. The junior shot a 74 on the second day of the competition and currently sits in second place of the 82-golfer field with 18 holes to play.
Solid play by Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) helped the Bobcats drop 12 strokes from their first-round team score of 320. After shooting a 308 on Monday, the Bobcats are now tied for 12th place at the tournament with a two-round score of 628. Ohio is tied with Rutgers with 18 holes to play at the competition.
Mercer remains at the front of the pack, shooting a two-round score of 584. Lacey Fears of Mercer holds the top individual spot with a two-round score of 141. She ends the second day of competition two strokes ahead of Ohio’s Brinkmann for medalist honors.
If Brinkmann is able to overtake the top spot at the tournament and claim first-place honors, she would become the first Bobcat to win a tournament since Sara Ann Palmer won the Lady Herd Invitational in October of 2004.
Ohio saw a very strong effort throughout its lineup on Monday, as four of five Bobcat golfers improved their scores from the first day of competition. Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) dropped one stroke to shoot a 75 and is now tied for 18th; Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) shaved four strokes to shoot an 82 and is tied for 75th; Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) dropped an impressive 14 strokes to shoot a 77 and sits tied for 75th with Helmsdoerfer, and Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) cut five strokes to shoot an 84 and occupy 81st place.
