RICHMOND, Ky. – In a day plagued with heavy rainstorms, the Ohio University women’s golf team compiled an 18-hole combined-team score of 326 (+38) on Friday (April 4) to give it a share of fifth place in the Colonel Classic at the Arlington Golf Club.

Host Eastern Kentucky currently sits leading the pack after carding a 313 (+25) in the tournament’s first round. Individually, USC-Upstate’s Malika Allie and Marshall’s Rachel Thompson sit in a tie for first place after tallying first round scores of 76 (+4), respectively.

Freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) braved the watery greens carding a team-best 79 (+7) in round one. The reigning Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week rests in a tie for 12th.

Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) fired an 80 (+8) to give her a share of 19th place. Fellow senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) tallied an 82 (+9) slotting her in a tie for 28th.

Sophomore Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) put forth an 85 (+12) effort in the dreary weather to move her into a tie for 45th. Rounding out team play, junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) fired an 88 (+16) to end the day in a tie for 59th.

In her Ohio debut freshman Jessica McRae (Medina, Ohio) laced a 92 (+20) as an individual competitor to place her in a tie for 69th.

Due to weather, the tournament has been reduced from three rounds to two. The second and final round will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday (April 5) in shotgun format.
