Colonel Classic Day One Get Acrobat Reader

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Ohio University women’s golf team turned in a strong showing at the first day of the 2013 Eastern Kentucky University Lady Colonel Classic on Friday. Through two rounds of play, the Bobcats currently sit in fifth place of the 14-team field.

Ohio shot team scores of 311 and 308 on Friday to end the day with a two-round score of 619. Toledo holds the top spot with a two-round score of 596 while host Eastern Kentucky sits second with a score of 608.

Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) led the way for the Green and White on Friday, ending the first day of competition tied for eighth place in the field of 87 golfers. She was one of three Ohio golfers who finished within the top 12, as Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) and Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) both finished tied for 12th place. These three golfers shot scores of 152, 154, and 154, respectively.

Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) showed the largest improvement from the first round to the second on Friday, shooting 84-77 to end the day with a score of 161. She is currently tied for 55th place. Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) was not far behind her, shooting 83-79 to end the day tied for 55th with a score of 162.

In the individual competition, Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) represented the Bobcats well on Friday. The freshman shot 81-77 to end the day with a 158 and currently tied for 34th place. The second-round 77 was a career low for McKinzie.

The Bobcats will wrap up play at the Lady Colonel Classic on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
