RICHMOND, Ky. - The Ohio University women's golf team continued its strong play at the 2013 Eastern Kentucky University Lady Colonel Classic on Saturday, finishing the tournament in fifth place. The Bobcats shot a three-round team score of 926, a mark which ranks as the fifth-lowest score in program history.
Ohio's score of 926 strokes is the program's best mark since the 1999-00 Mid-American Conference Championships, a tournament at which the Green and White finished with a mark of 925 strokes.
Toledo earned the top spot in the 14-team field, finishing with a three-round team score of 893. Fellow MAC foe Ball State took second with a score of 914 while host Eastern Kentucky finished third with 915 strokes.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) led the way for the Bobcats, shooting 74-80-74 to end the tournament tied for eighth with a score of 228 strokes. This was the second top-10 finish of her Bobcat career.
Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) and Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) were not far behind, tying for 12th in the 87-golfer field. These two student-athletes shot scores of 78-76-76 and 76-76-78, respectively, to finish with three-round scores of 230. Lechner demolished her prior top 54-hole score this weekend, cutting 16 strokes from her prior best mark of 246.
Finishing fourth and fifth for the Bobcats were Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) and Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio). Tranelli shot a three-round score of 241 to finish tied for 49th while Helmsdoerfer finished tied for 59th with her score of 244.
On the individual scoreboard, Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) finished fourth with a three-round score of 237. Compared with the entire field, this score ranked her 37th overall. This was her best 54-hole score by 11 strokes.
The Bobcats will next be in action on Saturday, April 13 at the Bowling Green Falcon Invitational.
