Falcon Invite Day One
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - On a wintry day in Bowling Green which featured rain, sleet, and winds in excess of 20 miles per hour, the Ohio University women's golf team finished the first day of competition at the 2013 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational. Ohio finished the first day in seventh place, having shot a team score of 336 through the first 18 holes of the competition.
The Bobcats finished 14 strokes off the pace of 322, which was set by host Bowling Green and Detroit. Indianapolis earned the third spot to end the day, shooting a score of 323. Ohio finished the first day ranking well in the 16-team field, ending the first round ahead of Findlay, Ferris State, Cleveland State, Ashland, Bowling Green "B", Loyola, Northwood, IPFW, and Niagara.
Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) continued her strong play from the past few weeks on Saturday, leading the way for the Bobcats with a score of 81 strokes. She ended the day tied for 11th. Not far behind her was teammate Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) who sits tied for 15th with a score of 82.
Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) and Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) finished the day near the middle of the pack, shooting scores of 86 and 87, respectively. Tranelli is currently tied for 43rd while McKinzie ended Saturday in a tie for 51st.
Rounding out Ohio's participation in the team portion of the competition was Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio). The junior shot 43-46 to end the day with an 89 and tied for 62nd.
Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) played a solid round in the individual competition, shooting an 88 to end the day tied for 56th.
Ohio will wrap up the second and final day of play at the Falcon Invitational on Sunday, April 14. The final round is set to begin at 9 a.m.
