Falcon Invite Final
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Ohio University women's golf team completed the second and final day of competition at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Ohio held firm in its position from Saturday, ending the tournament in seventh place with a team score of 647. Five of Ohio's seven golfers showed improvement from the first to second day, dropping a combined 37 strokes off their scores on Sunday.
Detroit earned the top spot at the tournament, shooting a two-round score of 618. Indianapolis and host Bowling Green took second and third, shooting scores of 633 and 635, respectively.
Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) led the way for the Green and White, finishing tied for ninth with a two-round score of 158. The freshman shot an 82 on Saturday and dropped six strokes from her score on Sunday to shoot a 76. Codian's top-10 finish was the third of her Bobcat career.
Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) made a tremendous improvement from the first day to the second, dropping 12 strokes from her first-round 86 to shoot a 74 on Sunday. This tied for the lowest round of Tranelli's career and tied her for 16th in the field of 91 golfers. Tranelli now has five top-20 finishes in her career with the Bobcats.
Finishing in the middle of the pack were Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) and Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio). Lechner shot a score of 165 to tie for 38th while Brinkmann shot a 166 to tie for 44th. Brinkmann dropped 12 strokes from her first-round score of 89 to shoot a 77 on Sunday.
Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) rounded out Ohio's play in the team portion of the competition, shooting a two-round score of 171 to finish tied for 62nd. She cut three strokes from her Saturday score to make a solid improvement on Sunday.
On the individual side, Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) tied for 65th with a two-round score of 172. Helmsdoerfer shot an 88 in the first round and ended play with an 84 on Sunday. Lauren Volz (Huron, Ohio) finished tied for 84th, shooting 92-92 to end with a two-round score of 184.
Ohio will next be in action at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Bobcats will host the tournament from April 26-28 at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
