NORMAL, Ill. – The Ohio University women’s golf team finished competition at the Redbird Invitational on Monday in record fashion.
The Bobcats shot a team score of 306 on the final day of play, landing them in sixth place with a three-round score of 918 (311-301-306, +54). The ‘Cats 918 combined total was good for the second-best 54-hole score in program history and the lowest mark since 1999.
Toledo shot a combined 890 (297-295-298, +26) to take the Redbird Invitational for the second consecutive year.
This year’s Redbird Invitational played much more competitively than last year’s, when Toledo won the tournament with a 915 three-round score. A 915 score in this year’s tournament would have only been good for sixth place.
Ball State’s Jenna Hague represented the MAC shooting the top individual score at a 215 (72-70-73, -1).
Sophomore Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) led the strong finish for the ‘Cats, ending Monday’s play with a two-over par 74. Her three-round score of 223 (76-73-74, +7) tied her career best and placed her ninth of the 86 players in the field, marking her fourth career top-10 finish at Ohio.
Sophomore Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) and freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) matched each other with three-round scores of 231 (McKinzie, 81-73-77, +15) (Hrynewich, 79-77-75, +15) putting them tied for 24th in the field.
Mckinzie’s 231 shattered her previous 54-hole best by 17 strokes.
Junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) shot an 80 on Monday to arrive in 30th place at three-round total of 233 (75-78-80, +17). The Bobcats were one of three teams to have four players finish in the top 30.
Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) shot her lowest round of the tournament on Monday finishing with an 81 to net her a three-round total of a 246 (83-82-81, +30).
Ohio will next play at the Nittany Lion Invitational in University Park, Pa., Sept. 27-29.
