Day One Results
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – After one round of play at the Nittany Lion Invitational, the Ohio University women’s golf team currently rests in seventh place out of 14 teams with a combined team score of 305 (+17).
Yale leads the field after day one shooting, a 289 (+1) to put the Bulldogs four strokes ahead of second place Penn State (293, +5). PSU’s Christina Vosters tallied the tournament’s top score shooting a 69 (-3).
Freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) led the Cats’ with an even-par 72. Hrynewich’s round was the best of her young Ohio career and positioned her in a tie for fifth place in the 93-player field.
Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) cut 10 strokes from her first-round score in last year’s Nittany Lion Invitational to shoot a 76 (+4). Helmdsoerfer’s improvement from last year’s tournament landed her tied for 26th place at the end of day one.
Junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) remained consisten,t shooting her season-average of a 78 (+6) to tie her for 39th place. Sophomore Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) trailed Lechner by one stroke at the end of the day giving her a 79 (+7).
Rounding out the Bobcats were sophomore Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) and senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio). McKinzie completed round-one with an 80 (+8) while Brinkmann shot an 86 (+14).
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning followed by the final round on Sunday.
