UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Saving its best round for last, Ohio Women’s Golf dropped 14 strokes from its second-round score to shoot a 309 on Sunday at the 2012 Nittany Lion Invitational. The Bobcats ended the tournament in 15th place with a score of 952 through three rounds of play.
Host Penn State took top honors at the tournament, shooting a three-round score of 862 to win by 26 strokes. The Nittany Lions boasted the first, second (tie) and fourth (tie) finishers at the tournament. Harvard took second place, shooting a three-round score of 886.
Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) continued to play beyond her years on Sunday, shooting a 75 to lead the Bobcats. The freshman ended the tournament with a three-round score of 223 and tied for 15th in the field of 103 golfers. Also shooting a 75 on the final day of the tournament was Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio), who ended up tied for 69th with a score of 239.
Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) and Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) were the next finishers for the Bobcats, taking 86th and 87th places three-round scores of 247 and 248, respectively.
Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) and Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) rounded out Ohio’s participation at the tournament. Tranelli shot her best round of the tournament on Sunday, carding an 80 before ultimately ending with a 253 to finish in 93rd place. Lechner shot an 85 on the final day of competition, finishing tied for 97th with a 259.
The Bobcats will next be in action on Oct. 15 and 16 when they host the annual Fall Preview at Longaberger Golf Course in Nashport, Ohio.
