Women's Golf In Sixth At The Preview

Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer is putting together an excellent fall season for the Bobcats.

FISHERS, Ind. - The Ohio University women's golf team put forth a strong effort in round one of The Preview and currently stands in sixth place after firing a combined score of 326 (+38).

MAC foe Toledo leads the event after firing a 16-over par 304, while Ball State's Jenna Hague is first among all individuals (72, E).

Ohio improved four spots from its 10th place standing after round one of The Preview last season.

The Bobcats were strong at the top on Monday, with two student-athletes in the top-11 of the field. Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) posted a tournament-high three birdies over her 18 holes and is tied for eighth place after carding a six-over par 78.

Fellow senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) proved to be a bastion of consistency with a field-best 13 pars in her round. She's tied for 11th among the field of 94 with a seven-over par 79.

Talented freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich,) was Ohio's third finisher and is tied for 51st after firing an 84 (+12). Sophomore Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) matched Hrynewich's score and posted identical front and back nine scores of 42.

Sophomore Angela Codian is one stroke back (85, +13) and tied for 58th place, while junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) rounds out the Ohio contingent with a score of 85 (+13). She's tied for 76th.

The Bobcats play the final 18 holes of The Preview Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
