PORT CLINTON, Ohio - Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) and sophomore Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) finished the first 36 holes of the Rocket Classic tied for ninth place, pacing the Ohio University women's golf team to a sixth-place standing after day one at Catawba Island Club.
The Bobcats fired a 320 (+32) followed by a 311 (+23) to total a combined two-round score of 631 (+55).
The duo of Helmsdoerfer and Codian finished the day with two-round scores of 153 (+9). Helmsdoerfer's 75 (+3) in the second round was her best score of the season.
Freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) is tied for 36th place after carding a 161 (+17). Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) shot a 167 (+23) to tie for 55th while sophomore Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) added a 172 (+28) to tie for 68th.
Junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) participated in the individual pool and tallied a 159 (+15) to put her in a tie for 29th place.
Tournament-host Toledo tallied a 597 (+21) to give them a 25-stroke lead on the rest of the field. Individually, Toledo teammates Sathika Ruenreong and Jennifer Elsholz matched each other for first place, both finishing Monday's play with a 148 (+4).
The final 18 holes will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
