Dayton Fall Invite - Day One
KETTERING, Ohio – Freshman Angela Codian turned in a terrific day during her first round at the 2012 Dayton Fall Invitational, shooting a career-low score of 68, including two eagles, to pace Ohio Women’s Golf to a fourth place tie on Monday afternoon.
Codian’s score of 68 is a significant improvement from her lowest score achieved through her first four tournaments as a Bobcat, which was an already-impressive 73. In fact, the freshman’s score is only two strokes higher than the best score achieved by a Bobcat female golfer, which was a 66 by Julie Tomlinson in 2005.
Following one round of play, Ohio is currently tied for fourth place with a team score of 304. Detroit holds the top spot, having shot a score of 291. Oakland and Valparaiso rank second and third, shooting scores of 298 and 299, respectively, on the first day.
Senior Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) was Ohio’s second finisher on Monday, shooting a score of 76 to end the day tied for 13th. She was followed by Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) who parlayed her strong performance at the Fall Preview to a solid 78 on the first day of play. She is currently tied for 23rd.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) and Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) rounded out Ohio’s participation in the team portion of the tournament. Brinkmann shot an 82 to end the day tied for 50th while Helmsdoerfer shot an 86 to end the day tied for 80th.
In the individual portion of the competition, Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) shot 37 and 41 to end the day with a career-best score of 78. She is tied for 23rd in the field.
