ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University head women's golf coach Kelly Ovington announced on Monday that Sarah Tranelli has signed a National Letter of Intent and will begin competing for the Bobcats in the 2009-10 season.

The Penfield, N.Y., native was named the 2008 All-Greater Rochester Co-Player of the Year after firing an 81 (+8) at Ridgemont Country Club to capture Section V medalist honors, finishing four strokes ahead of the field. Also an All-Greater Rochester selection in 2007, Tranelli was a six-time medalist during her high school career, including a win at the Penfield Country Club Women's Championship as a senior.

"I'm excited to welcome Sarah into our program for a number of different reasons," Ovington said. "She's extremely coachable and eager to learn, and her leadership will be a great asset to the team. She'll also bring a competitive spirit that we look for from each member of the program."

Tranelli also competed in the 2008 PGA Junior Championship after winning the Western New York PGA Junior Championship. A standout both on and off the course, she was honored with the New York State Scholar-Athlete award in each year of her high school career.
