Ohio Golfers Named All-America Scholars

ATHENS, Ohio - Announced recently by the Golf Coaches Association of America and the National Golf Coaches Association, four Ohio golfers have been named 2007 All-America Scholars. Bobcat men's team members Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) and Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) were among this year's field of Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, announced by the GCAA on July 11. Kristen Mautz (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Meredith Waterston (Bloomington, Minn.) were named NGCA All-America Scholars on July 9. This is the second time that Christman and Siekman have earned the distinction. Mautz is now a three-time honoree while Waterston was recognized for the first time. All four graduated from Ohio University in June. Christman recorded a 3.6 accumulative grade-point average and turned in a 75.42 in 24 rounds of action in 2006-07. He carded the lowest score of any Ohio golfer during the year, and of his career, with a 66 in the second round of the Yestingsmeier Invite. Christman earned Mid-American Conference Men's Co-Golfer of the Week honors following a tie for third at that tournament, also his best season and career finish. Siekmann was able to compile a 3.3 GPA and he turned in an average of 74.85 in 27 rounds played. The senior recorded a season low score of 70 on two occasions and his best finish of the season was a tie for seventh at Hawai'i. Mautz maintained a team-best 3.8 accumulative GPA and averaged a career-best 80.79 in 24 rounds played. Her low round of 76 was recorded at the MAC Championship and she turned in her best tournament finish of the season, and of her career, with a tie for eighth at the Falcon Invitational on April 16-17. Waterston finished with a 3.5 GPA and averaged a team-best 80.63 in 24 rounds as a senior. The best finish of the year, and of her career, was second place at the Falcon Invitational on April 16-17. Waterston was named MAC Golfer of the Week for her effort in the Falcon Invite. On the men's side, the GCAA requires that student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA and a stroke average under 76 to be honored. Requirements of the NGCA for the women's award include a 3.5 GPA and an event participation rate of at least 50-percent. The Ohio men's program now boasts 16 all-time All-America Scholars status while the women have garnered 19 awards all-time. |
