Lechner Wins Franklin County Women's Golf Championship

ATHENS, Ohio - Julie Lechner of the Ohio University women's golf team recently claimed top honors at the 2013 Franklin County Women's Golf Championships. The rising junior defeated four consecutive opponents in match-play format over the course of four days to take home the hardware. 

The tournament, held at the Scioto Reserve Country Club in Powell, Ohio, featured four flights (brackets) of competition. Lechner entered the tournament in the Championship Flight and made short work of her first two opponents, winning handily by scores of 8 and 7 in the first round and 4 and 3 in the quarterfinal round. 

Lechner (Powell, Ohio) matched up with a resilient opponent in the semifinal round, winning 1 up to advance to the championship. In the medal round, Lechner won by a final score of 2 and 1.

In addition to her solid 2012-13 season on the golf course for the Bobcats, Lechner excelled academically. The rising junior earned Dean's List honors for both the fall and spring semesters and was named to the Academic All-MAC Team while also receiving All-American scholar honors from the WGCAA.
