ATHENS, Ohio – Student-athletes on the Ohio University women’s golf team continued their strong summer play in recent weeks, as incoming freshman Hailey Hrynewich and rising junior Julie Lechner performed well at the TaylorMade Adidas Collegiate Series during the end of July.
Hrynewich won Event Seven on the TaylorMade Adidas Collegiate Series, taking the top spot in a field of 29 golfers at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The Muskegon, Michigan, native shot a two-round score of 151 to finish seven strokes above par. Hailey beat her nearest competitors by seven strokes. She collected six birdies and 20 pars throughout the competition.
This title was the second of the summer claimed by Hrynewich, as she also took top honors at the Michigan Junior Amateur Golf Tournament in late June.
Lechner (Powell, Ohio) competed at Event Eight on July 28-29, earning a fourth-place tie in the field of 37 golfers at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio. The rising junior tied for first among Mid-American Conference foes, ending the competition level with Jennifer Elsholz from the University of Toledo. Lechner shot a two-round score of 154 at the tournament to end 12 strokes over par. She collected six birdies and 16 pars at the tournament.
Teammate and rising senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) also played well at the competition, finishing in a tie for eighth place with Jessie Jordan of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Helmsdoerfer recorded one birdie and 20 pars at the event.
