ATHENS, Ohio - Incoming freshman Hailey Hrynewich of the Ohio University women's golf team continued her strong summer this past weekend, placing second in the 97th Michigan Women's Amateur at Walnut Hills Country Club. Hrynewich advanced to the final round of the tournament and lost by a final score of 3-and-2 to Michigan State senior Christine Meier.
In an interview with GolfWeek's Ron Gaines following the tournament, Hrynewich had this to say: "It was a lot of fun and I have a lot of confidence now heading to Ohio University to play college golf. I went up against college players here and did well. My putts were just not dropping." (Read the entire article here.)
The second-place result marked another solid finish in what has been a very strong summer for the native of Muskegon, Mich. Hrynewich won the seventh event on the TaylorMade Adidas Collegiate Series in late July and took top honors at the Michigan Junior Amateur a month prior.
While in high school, Hrynewich led Mona Shores to four straight Division Two state team titles and conference championships. She was a member of the Michigan All-State Division Two Golf Team during her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons. Her senior season was particularly impressive, as she was a Michigan Super Team honoree, something which is reserved for the top eight golfers in the state of Michigan.
Hrynewich and the women's golf team will open the fall 2013 schedule at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill., on Sept. 8.
