Women's Golf Record Book

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Women’s Golf heads west for its second tournament action of the 2012-13 season, traveling to Yorktown, Ind., to compete in the 2012 Cardinal Classic. Ball State University will be the host of the 12-team tournament which is set to begin on Saturday morning.

In their last outing, the Bobcats finished 10th at the 2012 Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill. Ohio was led by freshman Angela Codian’s score of 232 through 54 holes. Codian (Massilon, Ohio) tied for 15th at the competition. Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) was not far behind, tying for 31st with a three-round score of 239. The Bobcats finished 48 strokes off the pace and Toledo earned first place at the tournament.

The 36-hole tournament will feature 18 holes of play on both Saturday and Sunday. Players will shoot on a par-72 course which spans 6,258 yards beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. Ohio will encounter 11 teams at the tournament, among them being Mid-American Conference foes Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and host Ball State. Also participating at the tournament will be Dayton, IUPUI, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Valparaiso, UIC and Western Illinois.

Ohio fared quite well at the 2011 Cardinal Classic, placing fourth as a team. The Bobcats were led by then senior Megan Weaver who finished in fourth with a score of 150. Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) was the next Ohio finisher, taking 16th along with teammate Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio).
