ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Women's Golf hits the road for its third tournament of the fall 2012 schedule, traveling east to compete in the Nittany Lion Invitational on the campus of Penn State University from Friday through Sunday.
The tournament will be held at the Penn State Blue Course in University Park, Pa. A total of 17 teams will compete for top honors at the 6,229-yard, par-72 course. The tournament will include three rounds of play, with golfers beginning on Friday, Sept. 28 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Saturday play begins at 8 a.m. while Sunday's final round will commence at 8:30 a.m.
In addition to host Penn State and a number of non-conference opponents, Ohio will match up against Mid-American Conference foes Akron and Western Michigan at the tournament.
Ohio is coming off an eighth-place finish at the 2012 Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind. Freshman Angela Codian (Massilon, Ohio) had her second straight strong tournament performance, tying for third place in the field of 74 golfers. Through the first two tournaments of her NCAA career, Codian is averaging a score of 76.80 in five rounds of play, a mark which currently ranks eighth in the Mid-American Conference.
Veterans Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) and Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) will look to draw upon their significant experience this weekend at Penn State. Tranelli will be playing the 24th tournament of her career (most on the team) and Brinkmann will be playing the 22nd of her career.
