Lacrosse Falls to Notre Dame in Season Opener

Notre Dame, Ind. - Notre Dame scored four times in the first three-and-a-half minutes and never looked back on the way to a 15-3 season-opening win over Ohio Sunday at Meyo Field in the Loftus Center.

Alissa Moser got the Irish attack started early as she scored her first of two goals just 39 seconds into the game. Natalie Loftus made it 2-0 with her first of the game at 27:53, while Danielle Shearer, who had a goal and three assists, found the net with 26:40 left in the half for a 3-0 lead.

Notre Dame built a 9-0 lead at halftime and was ahead 10-0 before the Bobcats broke up goalkeeper Jen White's shutout bid at 26:06 of the second half.

Becky Oxman broke the shutout for Ohio University at 26:06 and Alyssa Trocher added her goal just 16 seconds later to cut the lead to 10-2.

But the Irish scored back-to-back goals 33 seconds apart - at 23:30 and 22:57 - to get the lead back to double digits.

Notre Dame outshot Ohio 18-13 in the game. White made nine saves for the Irish while Jennifer Cassidy had 12 saves for the Bobcats.

Ohio returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Monmouth at Peggy Pruitt Field. Start time is 1 p.m.
