Shannon Hadaway, a sophomore from Pasadena, Md., has been one of the Bobcats' top offensive threats this season. She currently is tied for the team lead with five goals and ranks second with eight points. She has started all six games of the 2006 season and has scored at least one goal in five of those contests.
The Bobcats are currently in the middle of a 10-day break from competition during the University's exam period. Ohio resumes play on March 21 at California, the first of three games five days on the West Coast.
Hadaway recently took time to answer some questions about playing for the Bobcats and what she enjoys on and off the field.
Why did you choose Ohio?
I chose Ohio because it is a beautiful campus and great school academically.
What is the best part about playing lacrosse at Ohio?
Just being able to compete at such a high level and getting to play with some of the best players in the world. It is also great to have a solid unit, just like a family, to fall back on whenever you are having a hard time
If you could have dinner with any three people, alive or dead, who would they be and why?
One would be my grandmother who passed away last winter because she was like a second mom to me, and I would give anything to have one more conversation with her. I would also like to have dinner with Mother Teresa. I would just love to talk with the woman who gave her life and generosity to so many. Another person I would like to have diner with would be Lance Armstrong so I could talk to him in person.I would ask him how he gets the determination and will to beat three types of cancer and go on to win seven straight Tour de Frances.
What are your interests outside of playing lacrosse?
I love hanging out with friends and watching movies. I am in a soroity, Alpha Xi Delta. I also enjoy the beach and spending time with my family. Outside of lacrosse, I also enjoy playing and watching other sports.
If you weren't playing lacrosse, what would you be doing now?
I would be in college but I don't think I would be at Ohio University because until my junior year in high school, when I started being recruited, I had no idea what it was. I think i would be playing soccer at a college.
Who is the funniest person on your team and why?
The funniest person to me on my team would be Jen Heup. She just has a certain wit and humor that makes me laugh. Whenever I think of her I start cracking up.
Who has been your biggest influence and why?
My mom because she has not had the best life, but she makes sure she makes mine the best she can. She is a strong, sensitive woman who takes care of everyone else before herself. She has always pushed me to be my best and helped me by driving me to extra training sessions after a long day at work. I can only hope I will be half as good as a mom as she is to me and my sister.
If your life story was made into a movie, which actress would you pick
to play the part of you?
Jessica simpson because she is fun, has a good sense of style, is sensitive, and kind of an airhead with common sense stuff...like me.
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and
As superficial as this sounds I would like to trade places with Paris Hilton so i could go shopping and spend tons of money. Then I could also find out if being rich makes you happy.
What is your favorite movie and why?
The Notebook because deep down, way deep down, I am a hopeless romantic.
If you could play any other sport other than lacrosse, what would it be and why?
Soccer because I have played it all my life, and I used to be pretty good at it. Also because my whole family plays it. My grandfather used to play professional soccer in Italy, so it is like a family tradition.
