Bucknell Holds Off Ohio Lacrosse, 9-8

The Bison got on the board first when senior tri-captain Ashley Evans scored one of her game-high four goals just 1:12 into the contest. Ohio evened the score 26 seconds later with a goal from sophomore Alyssa Trocher (Ellicott City, Md.) on a pass from Lynz Keys (Whitby, Ont.). Keys put the Bobcats ahead 2-1 with an unassisted tally at the 27:56 mark. The two teams exchanged goals over the next three minutes before the Orange and Blue took a 4-3 lead on another Evans goal. Bucknell built its advantage to 5-3 before the Bobcats came storming back with three unanswered scores in the final 13:04 for a 6-5 lead at the end of the first half.
The Bucknell defense went to work in the second half, holding Ohio without a goal for the first eight minutes of the frame. The BU offense did its job, staking the Bison to a 9-6 lead behind four unanswered goals. The Bobcats made it interesting, cutting the lead to 9-7 with a goal by Keys at the 11:50 mark. Ohio closed to within one on Lindsey Hart's (Vineland, Ont.) second score of the game with 1:09 remaining, but BU held off the comeback attempt to come away with the victory in their home opener.
Freshman Jennifer Cassidy (Whitby, Ont.) was between the pipes for Ohio, stopping 13 shots. Annie Richards recorded 11 saves for Bucknell.
With the loss, Ohio falls to 0-4 on the year. The Bobcats are back on the field on Thursday when they battle Columbia at 3 p.m.
