Ohio Lacrosse Wins Second Straight, Defeats Howard 13-4
Athens, Ohio - The Ohio lacrosse team extended its win steak to two games with a 13-4 victory against Howard on Sunday afternoon.
The Bison got on the board first less than two minutes into the contest. The Bobcats answered with nine straight goals to take a commanding 9-1 lead with just under two minutes left to play in the first half. Freshman Melissa Menna (Downingtown, Pa.) started the offensive dominance when she found the back of the net on a pass from Ashley Boccia (Salisbury, Md.) at the 26:25 mark. Ohio took the lead for good less than two minutes later when Lindsey Hart (Vineland, Ont.) scored the first of her four straight goals on a pretty pass from Alyssa Trocher (Ellicott City, Md.). Howard added a late goal to make the halftime score 9-2.
The two teams, marred by constant rain, played a defensive second half. The Bobcats controlled most of the play, but could only manage four goals after intermission. Howard netminder Brandi Lawrence made some great stops to limit the Ohio attack. The Bobcats defense held the Bison scoreless for the final 25 minutes of the second half.
The Bobcats were led by freshman Becky Oxman (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) who tallied four goals and an assist. Trocher registered two goals and two assists in the victory. Menna added two goals and freshman Lynz Keys (Whitby, Ont.) scored the only other goal for Ohio. Bobcat goalie Jennifer Cassidy (Whitby, Ont.) recorded seven saves in the net.
