Ohio Lacrosse Defeats Cal-Berkley, 14-6
Athens, Ohio - The Ohio lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak with an impressive 14-6 victory over Cal-Berkley on Friday afternoon. The neutral site game was played at Villanova University.
The Bobcats struck first when freshman Melissa Menna (Downingtown, Pa.) scored her 13th goal of the season at the 28:44 mark. The Golden Bears answered with two quick goals to capture their only lead, 2-1. Alyssa Trocher, Ohio's leading scorer, tallied the next two goals to put the Bobcats in front for good. The Maryland native scored with ten seconds remaining before intermission to give the Bobcats momentum heading into the second half.
Ohio used the spark to outscore Cal 7-1 after the break. Lindsey Hart (Vineland, Ont.), Lynz Keys (Whitby, Ont.) and Becky Oxman (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) each registered two goals in the final 30 minutes to lead the offensive attack. The Bobcat defense held the Golden Bears scoreless in the second half until Hasley Monger scored her second goal of the game at the 1:31 mark. Ohio goalie Jennifer Cassidy (Whitby, Ont.) played well in the net recording 18 saves.
Hart who tallied four goals and two assists led the Bobcats offensively. Trocher and Keys each added three goals in the victory. Oxman (2g), Menna (1g), Dianne Villarreal (1g) and Emily Hemmelgarn (2a) also registered points for Ohio.
The Bobcats (2-6) play host to Howard on Sunday at 1 p.m.
