Dana Dobbie recorded six goals and an assist Friday to lead Ohio to a 16-7 ALC victory over Davidson.
ATHENS, Ohio – Freshman attacker Dana Dobbie (Guelph, Ontario) tallied six goals and an assist while seven other Bobcats found the net to lead Ohio to a 16-7 American Lacrosse Conference victory over Davidson Friday afternoon at Pruitt Field. Ohio scored the first five goals of the game and were never challenged in improving to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
The Bobcats got on the board quickly as Becky Oxman (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) scored the first of her two goals just 51 seconds into the contest. The lead increased to 3-0 shortly thereafter when Dobbie and Melissa Menna (Downington, Pa.) tallied goals at the 2:02 and 2:48 marks, respectively. Oxman scored again at 6:28, followed by Caitlin Link just under four minutes later as Ohio built a 5-0 lead.
Davidson (3-8, 0-4) got on the board with 9:24 remaining in the first half. Lindsay Frank lobbed a pass toward the Bobcat goal, where goalkeeper Jennifer Cassidy (Whitby, Ontario) initially gained possession. However, in the transition to offense, the ball squirted out and trickled into the net. Cassidy made up for the turnover, though, keeping the Wildcats at bay for most of the contest by recording eight saves.
Redemption came quick as Lynz Keys (Whitby, Ontario) pushed the lead back to five with an unassisted strike 16 seconds later. Davidson’s Brandon Jacob and Dobbie each scored twice over the remaining time to set the score at 8-3 at intermission.
The second half started with a goals from Dobbie and Menna 11 seconds apart, giving Ohio a 10-3 lead with 26:39 left in the game. Davidson rallied with a pair of goal to close back to within five, but the Bobcats ran off three straight to end the rally. Katie Peksa (Salisbury, Md.), Link and Dobbie struck over a four-and-a-half minute span that ended at the 43:59 mark.
After a Davidson goal by Millie McKeachie with 13:29 remaining, Allison Brennan (Annandale, Va.) put Ohio ahead 14-6 when she converted a free position attempt. Eloise Grose capped the Wildcats scoring with just over four minutes remaining, but the Bobcats scored twice in the final 3:44 for the final margin. The final tally came off the stick of Courtney Santelli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with just six seconds to play.
“I was very pleased with our midfield game today,” said Ohio head coach Kate Brew. “It is nice to see the scoring so widely distributed with eight different players finding the net and four getting assists. We continue to dominate in draw controls and that helps with our transition. Meg Ryan had several interceptions and ground balls in the back, Dana was solid in every stat category and Caitlin and Kristen (Gombeski) made huge contributions in the midfield.
Ohio outshot Davidson 35-19 and gained 18 of the 25 draw controls. The Bobcats also caused nine of the Wildcats’ 22 turnovers.
The Bobcats now hit the road for three straight games beginning Tuesday at Notre Dame. The next league game in the finale of the trip, April 16 at Vanderbilt.
