Trocher and Hart Lead Ohio Lacrosse to 19-12 Victory Over Gannon


ERIE, PA - The Ohio women's lacrosse team won its third straight game on Friday afternoon against Gannon University.

The Lady Knights took a 2-1 lead on two goals from Carrie DiBasio in the first 9:40 of the contest, but it was all Ohio after the first 10 minutes. The Bobcats scored seven of the next eight goals for a commanding 8-3 lead with 3:16 left in the first half. Gannon's Cayla Veach scored with 1:53 left before halftime, but Ohio's Alyssa Trocher (Ellicott City, Md.) answered with a goal 13 seconds later. The Lady Knights added a quick goal before intermission to make the score 9-5.

The Lady Knights need just 31 seconds to score in the second half. Brown scored her second goal of the game and cut the Ohio lead to 9-6. Ohio boosted the lead to 11-6 on goals from Becky Oxman (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Lynz Keys (Whitby, Ont.). DiBasio then scored her third and fourth goals of the contest within 36 seconds of each other, cutting the Bobcat lead to 11-8 with 26:13 left to play.

Ohio scored four unanswered goals and eight of the next ten to build a comfortable lead. Ashley Bauer's (Shaker Heights) first goal of the game with 11:50 left to play built Ohio's lead to 19-10. Gannon added two late goals to account for the final 19-12 score.

Trocher's eight goals, four assists and 12 points were all new single-game school records. Bauer netted two goals and Lindsey Hart (Vineland, Ont.) tallied five goals and four assists in the victory. Melissa Menna (Downingtown, Pa.), Dianne Villarreal (Englewood, Colo.), Keys and Oxman each tallied one goal for Ohio.

Gannon's Megan Hallock registered 11 saves in the loss while Ohio's Jennifer Cassidy (Whitby, Ont.) recorded eight saves to preserve the victory.

Gannon, the top-ranked team in Division II, dropped to 5-2 with the loss. Both losses came to Division I clubs as the Lady Knights' other loss came at Duquesne, 7-6. Ohio improved to 4-6 with the victory.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday with a match against St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.
