Hart's School Record Leads Ohio Lacrosse Past Mercyhurst 21-10

4/13/2001

Athens, Ohio - Sophomore Lindsey Hart (Vineland, Ont.) tallied five goals in each half to lead the Ohio lacrosse team to an impressive 21-10 victory over Mercyhurst on Friday afternoon. The Bobcats (6-6) avenged a 20-6 loss against the Lakers last season.

Mercyhurst jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first minute and a half. The Bobcats quickly answered when Hart scored her first goal of the game at the 28:20 mark. Melissa Menna (Downingtown, Pa.) scored two minutes later on a pass from Hart to make the score 2-2. Ohio took the lead for good on a goal by freshman Lynz Keys (Whitby, Ont.) at the 23:48 mark. The two teams traded goals before the Bobcats finished the first half on an 8-0 run. Sophomore Alyssa Trocher (Ellicott City, Md.) keyed the attack with three goals and an assist.

The two teams played an even second half until Hart took over midway through the period. She scored four unanswered goals to give Ohio a commanding 18-6 lead with less than ten minutes left to play. The sophomore midfielder finished the Ohio scoring with her school-record 10th goal of the game at the 1:32 mark. Hart's ten goals also set a national season-high for goals in a single game.

Becky Oxman (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) tallied three goals and two assists in the victory. Menna finished with two goals and an assist for Ohio. Freshman Jennifer Cassidy (Whitby, Ont.) made eight saves to secure the Bobcats fifth straight win.

The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, April 18 when they host Niagara at 3:30 p.m.
