No. 9 Penn State Pulls Away From Lacrosse Bobcats in Second Half

    STATE COLLEGE, Pa. Lindsey Hart scored twice in the first 19:38 but No. 9 Penn State outscored Ohio 12-1 over the remaining time to defeat the Bobcats 16-5 in an American Lacrosse Conference match Friday.

    Ohio fell to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the ALC with its fourth loss in five games. Penn State is undefeated in league play at 5-0 (8-7 overall).

    Alyssa Trocher opened the scoring 1:51 into the contest on a free position shot, but the Nittany Lions scored back-to-back goals for a 2-1 lead. Melissa Menna evened the game at 2-2 on another free position shot at the 13:40 mark.

    The teams traded goals twice in short spans to make the score 3-3, then 4-4. Hart scored both of the Bobcat goals, first at 14:57 19 seconds after Penn State had taken the lead then later just 62 seconds the Lions again moved ahead.

    With the score tied at four with just over 10 minutes left in the first half, Penn State found the net twice more before halftime. The Lions opened the second period on a 7-0 run and outscored the Bobcats 10-1 overall.

    Ohio will play its final match of the season at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ohio State.
