ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio State raced out to a 5-1 lead in the first 11 minutes of the game, then held Ohio off for the remainder of the contest to post a 12-6 American Lacrosse Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Peggy Pruitt Field. Tracey Bounds scored five times and had an assist to lead the Buckeyes, while Lynz Keys posted a hat trick with three goals for the Bobcats.

Ohio State (11-4, 4-2) scored the game's first two goals in a span of 3:16. Bounds opened with a tally at 1:27 before Regina Oliver found the net later to put the Buckeyes up 2-0. Ohio answered less than a minute later on Alyssa Trocher's free position goal at 4:12. OSU rattled off three straight goals - by Bounds, Lauren Cochran and Megan Mirick - over a five-minute span to move ahead 5-1 at the 11:19 mark.

Keys tallied her second goal just 34 seconds later to cut the lead back to three, but Ohio State put up two more scores before intermission to open a 7-2 advantage at the break. Carrie Weatherill scored at 17:14 before Bounds reached the hat trick with 4:23 remaining in the period.

Ohio (9-6, 1-5) cut in the lead with the first two goals of a slower-paced second half. Lindsey Hart, the Bobcats' leading scorer, got on the board 4:51 into the period before Keys trimmed the lead to three, 7-4, at the 16:02 mark. But it took the Buckeyes just 32 seconds to respond. Noemi Hites started the run with Shannon Wilson and Bounds also finding the net over the next four-and-a-half minutes to run the score to 10-4 and seal the victory.

Each team scored twice over the remaining time - Ohio at 23:08 (Keys) and 29:50 (Becky Oxman), Ohio State at 26:35 (Cochran) and at 28:44 (Bounds).

Both teams set school records for wins this season, Ohio State at 11 and Ohio at 9. The Buckeye are under consideration for a berth in the NCAA Tournament which begins later this month.
