ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio lacrosse team was one of only 20 nationwide to be named a 2003 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I Academic Merit Squad. The IWLCA chooses only teams with an accumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or greater for the honor.

“I’m very pleased with the honor because it shows we are excelling not only on the field, but academically as well,” said Bobcat head coach Kate Brew. “With our 22 student-athletes on the squad, we had an overall team GPA of 3.13.”

Other schools named to the 2003 IWLCA Academic Merit Squad were Stanford, Connecticut, Duquesne, Brown, California, Dartmouth, Delaware, Fairfield, Harvard, Hofstra, James Madison, Long Island, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Princeton, Saint Francis, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

Lindsey Hart, who graduated from Ohio University on Saturday, earned a place on the 2003 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. The midfielder from Vineland, Ontario, led the Bobcats in goals (49), points (57), caused turnovers (18) and draw controls (37).

“Not only is Lindsey an exceptional athlete, she excelled in just about every positive statistic this year,” said Brew. “In the classroom, she was a biology/pre-med major who graduated with well over a 3.00 GPA and won numerous academic honors.”

In May, Hart was named to the American Lacrosse Conference first team, the All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team and the Verizon Academic All-District IV third team.
