ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Lacrosse Head Coach Allison Valentino has announced that Paula Habel will join the Bobcat staff as an assistant coach. Habel brings with her plenty of success as the former head coach at Division III Plymouth State the past two seasons.
"I am pleased to announce the addition of Paula Habel to the women's lacrosse staff at Ohio as an assistant coach," Valentino said. "Paula's experience, work ethic and her passion for Ohio lacrosse will be tremendous assets for our program."
Habel racked up impressive totals in just two years at Plymouth State as her teams went a combined 26-11 and had 12 players earn all-conference honors. In 2006, Habel led the Panthers to a 13-6 season and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The team claimed the Little East Conference (LEC) regular season and tournament championships while posting separate win streaks of five and eight games. Habel was named the LEC Coach of the Year while also coaching the LEC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year. Six of Habel's players earned All-LEC honors and two were named to the 2006 Pilgrim Region Second Team.
"I am really excited to be here," Habel said. "I'm thrilled and feel like I can learn a lot from Allison. I'm excited to meet the girls this fall and get started. It is just a really great opportunity. Allison has really good things happening here with the program. It is an exhilarating time to be part of Ohio Lacrosse."
Habel's first season as Panther head coach was equally impressive as the team went 13-5, claiming the LEC regular season title and finishing runner-up in the LEC Tournament. The team went on to win the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship while Habel coached six different Panthers to All-LEC accolades. Prior to coaching at Plymouth State, Habel served as an assistant coach at Division II Stonehill College in 2004.
Habel graduated from Bridgewater State in 2003 and was a starter on the Bears' lacrosse and basketball teams. She was a two-time conference offensive player of the year and a two-time ECAC All-Star, while also competing in the North-South All-Star Game in 2003. Habel served as team captain three seasons in lacrosse while filling the duty for two seasons in basketball.
