ATHENS—The Ohio lacrosse program put a new wrinkle into the university’s Homecoming celebration this Saturday, as head coach Kate Brew and her squad welcomed back several former Bobcats to compete in the team’s first alumni game.

Fifteen Ohio graduates returned for the event. There were representatives from each graduating class in the program’s history, dating back to 1999, including four from last spring’s squad that finished 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the American Lacrosse Conference.

“This alumni game proved to be a great opportunity for the alumni to reconnect with our program,” Brew said.

The current Ohio squad defeated the alumni, 13-2, in the event. Brew said she was pleased with the success of the first alumni game.

“This is definitely something we’re looking to do on an annual basis,” Brew said.

Since its rebirth to varsity status in 1999, the Ohio lacrosse program has shown consistent improvements, culminating in its most successful season to date last spring. Three Bobcats earned all-conference honors in 2003, while four were named to the ALC team in 2004.
