Nicolle Varney enters her first season as a student assistant coach for the Ohio University soccer program in 2014.

Varney spent the previous three seasons competing on the pitch as a defender for the Bobcats. She played in 22 games, making five starts and totaling 695 minutes. An Early Childhood Education major, Varney garnered Academic All-Mid-American Conference Honorable Mention in 2012 and earned Dean's List recognition for the spring 2014 semester.

Prior to arriving in Athens, Varney was athree-time letterwinner for Medina High School. A two-time All-Northeast Ohio Conference pick as well as a Second Team All-District choice as a senior, she totaled four career goals as a back and helped her squad amass a 32-game undefeated streak during her career. Medina set a school record for wins in a season with 21 in 2009 and recorded 15 straight shutouts during the stretch. The team was ranked No. 1 on the Powerade FAB 50 ESPN Rise list. Varney also helped Cleveland FC to six state championships and three Midwest Regional League titles and participated in the ODP program for two years.

Born on Dec. 4, 1992, Varney is the daughter of Scott and Lynn Varney and has one brother, Connor.
