Bobcats provide opportunities for local youth to play soccer
Mike Stoerkel joined the Ohio Women's Soccer staff in July 2011. He began his first season with the Bobcats in 2011. Stoerkel was then promoted to the position of Assistant Coach during the summer of 2012.
"We are thrilled to welcome to our staff a coach with both the playing and coaching pedigree that Mike brings," head coach Stacy Strauss said. "His background is well suited to immediately benefit our players' on-field development, and to further bolster our recruiting relationships in Northeast Ohio. He is a highly qualified coach and an even better person on the cusp of a great coaching career. We look forward to his arrival in the coming days."
Most recently, Stoerkel served as soccer administrator at Pinnacle Sports in Medina, Ohio since 2005. In his role, he coordinated scheduling for over 200 teams, and organized and directed coaches for over 3,000 players annually. Stoerkel also developed curriculum and implemented training programs for children between the ages of 3-18. Further, he maintained and managed the company website.
Concurrently, he served as the owner, founder and director of the High School Development Program Soccer Club in Akron, Ohio.
Stoerkel played four years of soccer at Ashland University from 2001-05. Scholastically, he was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) High School All-American. Stoerkel was named the Ohio High School Division 2 Player of the Year in 2000. He played in U16 U.S. National Pool Team.
He holds a number of coaching licenses including United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "A," "B" and Youth Licenses. Stoerkel also holds an NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. He is a member of the Ohio Youth Soccer Association North Olympic Development Program State coaching staff. Stoerkel has served on the Region 2 ODP coaching staff since 2009.
