Amy Switzer

Player Profile

Position:
Assistant Coach

Alma Mater:
Ohio `07

Definitely no stranger to Ohio soccer, former Bobcat player and assistant coach, Amy Switzer, returned to Athens as the lead assistant under Strauss beginning in 2010. She will begin her second season as top assistant in 2011.

A four-year letterwinner for the `Cats from 2003-2006, Switzer continues her second stint on the Ohio coaching staff, having served as a graduate assistant under Strauss in 2007. She will assist with every aspect of the program, including recruiting, skill development, film breakdown and opponent scouting.

"I'm tremendously excited to have a coach with the enthusiasm, experience and character of Amy," Strauss said upon Switzer's hiring. "Her passion for the sport, and for Ohio in particular, is unrivaled. She returns to Athens with a wealth of knowledge and experience gained in both college and youth coaching positions, which will benefit our program's continued growth and development."

Switzer returns to Southeast Ohio after working with Red Bull New York in Secaucus, N.J., as a developmental staff coach for youth athletes and parent coaches in New York and New Jersey. She also served as a personal trainer for the New York Sports Club. Just prior to that, she worked for the World Class Soccer Academy overseeing the development and organization of three youth soccer teams in the Orangeburg, N.Y. area.

Prior to her time in the New York/New Jersey area, Switzer spent a year as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston. She certainly made an impact during her time with the Cougars, helping guide the squad to a program-best 12-5-4 mark during the 2008 season and mentoring five All-Southern Conference players. Included in that group was Megan Manthey, who led the Southern Conference in goals scored and points, tallying 14 goals and an impressive 34 points on the year.

A Noblesville, Ind., product, Switzer played in 46 games while tallying 24 starts as a midfielder for Ohio from 2003-06. She played a key role in helping guide the 2004 squad to a regular-season conference championship, the third conference title in school history. Prior to joining the `Cats, she enjoyed a distinguished high school career at Bishop Fenwick HS in Middletown, Ohio.

Switzer graduated from Ohio with a degree in Exercise Physiology in 2007, before earning a master's degree in Coaching Education in 2008. She holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma coaching certification.
