ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Soccer completed its third week of the 2012 spring season this past weekend, playing a match at the University of Cincinnati on Friday evening. The Bobcats were defeated 4-2 by the Bearcats in a high-scoring affair.

Liz Finley (Mason, Ohio) and Cathryn Rogers (Etobicoke, Ontario) scored Ohio’s two goals of the match. Paige Howard (Mentor, Ohio) and Erin Schwenke (Solon, Ohio) had the assists on the first goal while Veronica Rock (North Royalton, Ohio) registered the assist on the second.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Finley found the back of the net to pull the sides level at 1-1. Cincinnati was then able to grab two more goals before the halftime break to take a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first frame. Rogers scored a nice goal from Rock’s corner kick to pull the ‘Cats within one at 3-2. Cincinnati was then able to put the game away a few minutes later, scoring its fourth and final goal of the match.

“It was the best competition we’ve faced thus far this spring,” said head coach Stacy Strauss. “We saw some very good possession and in the second half we defended a bit better. Credit Cincinnati with some great goals and superior speed at certain positions.”

Friday’s game was no flash in the pan, as Ohio’s offense has been very consistent throughout the spring. Through 350 minutes of play in the spring, the Bobcats have scored eight goals, or an average of greater than two goals every 90 minutes. This significantly dwarfs the fall 2011 production when the ‘Cats scored 0.8 goals per contest.
