ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Soccer ended its 2012 spring season on a high note Saturday afternoon, defeating the program's alumnae by a final score of 3-0. The program then honored the 2011 squad with a team awards banquet to recognize the accomplishments of last season.

The Bobcats finished the 2012 spring season with a W-L-D mark of 3-2-1. Ohio earned victories over Capital (3-1), Eastern Kentucky (3-1) and the Ohio alumnae (3-0), drew with Marshall (0-0) and lost to Cincinnati (4-2) and Wright State (3-0). Ohio's offense was prolific in the spring, as the Bobcats scored 11 goals and registered 12 assists in the six matches. The scoring was balanced as well, with six different student-athletes finding the net at least once.

Alex Stec (Medina, Ohio) led the way offensively, scoring three goals in the team's six games. She was followed closely by Liz Finley (Mason, Ohio), Cathryn Rogers (Etobicoke, Ontario) and recent transfer Maggie Murnane (Libertyville, Ill.), all of whom scored twice. Seven different Bobcats registered at least one assist in the spring and Erin Schwenke (Solon, Ohio) led all players with four helpers.

In the game against program alumnae, Natalie Bechtel (Westlake, Ohio) and Stec were the two biggest offensive threats on the field. Bechtel scored one goal while Stec netted the other two. Assists were provided by Murnane, Schwenke and Rogers.

The program also held a team banquet to recognize the accomplishments of the 2011 season, presenting the following awards:

Most Valuable Player: Toye Famodu
Most Improved Player: Veronica "Ronni" Rock
Unsung Hero: Paige Howard

The Bobcats will next be in action on August 12 against Eastern Kentucky. Ohio will host the Colonels in an exhibition match at Chessa Field beginning at 1 p.m. The Bobcats will then open the regular season at Wright State on August 17.
