ATHENS, Ohio -
The Ohio University woman's soccer team kicked off the 2014 season with a 2-2 tie against UNCG in an exhibition game played today at Peden Stadium.
The exhibition was split between three 30-minute periods instead of two 45-minute halves.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first period when sophomore Alexis Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) scored in the seventh minute when she kicked a rebound in over the head of the UNCG goalie.
The Spartans tied it up at 29:29 in the first off the foot of Chesney White and then took a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute when White scored from the far right wing, notching her second goal of the game.
In the 84th minute, sophomore Mollie Whitacre (Perrysburg, Ohio) corralled a rebound off of a corner kick and from 18-yards out rocketed the ball into the top left corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2.
The game would end in a 2-2 draw after three periods.
Overall, Ohio outshot the Spartans 12 to seven, with Milesky, redshirt sophomore Sasha Haverchak (Akron, Ohio), senior Liz Finley (Mason, Ohio) and sophomore Kelley Zebrowski (Powell, Ohio) all registered two shots.
The `Cats registered a total of 13 corner kicks.
Senior starting goalie Nicole Amari (Vernon Hills, Ill.) allowed two goals and registered three saves.
Up next, the Bobcats open the 2014 regular season when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday, Aug. 22 and Sunday, Aug 24 for the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. On Aug. 22 Ohio will take on Butler at 4 p.m. and on Aug. 24 the Bobcats will face Purdue at 4 p.m.
