GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Ohio University women’s soccer team took to the field for the first time in 2013 on Thursday afternoon, playing the UNC Greensboro Spartans in an exhibition match. In each program’s first exhibition action of the season, the Bobcats and the Spartans played to a 0-0 draw at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

In lieu of the typical 45-minute halves, the two teams played three 30-minute periods.

Though no goals were scored in the contest, the Bobcats outshot the Spartans by a 2:1 margin, firing eight shots compared to just four for the hosts. Six of Ohio’s shots were on target while merely two of UNCG’s found their way on frame. Holly Harris (Batavia, Ohio) and Brieanna Charlebois (London, Ontario) each registered a game-high two shots. Both of Charlebois’ attempts were on target and saved.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior Nicole Amari (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and senior Mattie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio) each made one save. Amari got the start in net and played 40 minutes while Liston was on the field for 38:23. Redshirt junior Rachel Fryan (Racine, Wis.) rounded out the match by playing the final 11:37 in net.

The teams traded shots on target in the first of the three 30-minute periods. Freshman Alexis Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) fired one on target in the 23rd minute before UNCG’s Katie Durst answered with a similar attempt in the 25th.

Ohio dominated the second period of play, outshooting UNCG 5-1. Harris forced Jesse McGinley into a save in the 38th minute before Allison Cislo (Crownsville, Md.) also hit an attempt on target in the 50th minute. Charlebois rounded out the frame with Ohio’s fourth shot on goal of the afternoon, testing UNCG goalkeeper Rachel Collins with a headed attempt on frame in the 60th minute.

Each side registered two shots in the final 30-minute period, with Charlebois and Erin Feeney (Milton, Mass.) recording attempts for Ohio while Alexis Thomas and Rebecca Burrows generated chances for the hosts. Feeney’s shot in the 89th minute nearly gave Ohio a late victory on Thursday, but goalkeeper Kristen Glad was able to make the save and preserve the scoreless draw.

The Bobcats will open the 2013 regular season with three home matches at Chessa Field. Ohio will host Indiana (Aug. 23), Wright State (Aug. 25), and DePaul (Aug. 30).
