ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University women's soccer team (6-5-4, 2-3-2 MAC) fell to Eastern Michigan, 3-0, Friday in Mid-American Conference action at Chessa Field. The loss put a halt to a two-match unbeaten streak for the Bobcats.
Senior Mattie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio) matched her career high with 15 saves, but the Eagles outshot the Bobcats by a 23-8 margin and capitalized on three opportunities. Liston upped her career save total to 371.
Eastern Michigan landed the first punch in the eighth minute. Senior midfield Cara Cutaia had the ball lobbed in to her from senior forward Stephanie Clarke and took a strike from the top of the box and hit the top right corner of the goal.
The Eagles struck again in the 10th minute on a goal by junior forward Angela Vultaggio off her own rebound.
The Eagles tacked on one more in the 78th minute with another goal by Cutaia, who took a pass from Vultaggio and scored from inside the box. It marked the first goal Ohio has allowed in the second half since Sept. 6 at Niagara.
Senior midfield/forward Maggie Murnane (Libertyville, Ill.) led Ohio with two of her team-high three shots coming on goal.
Ohio returns to action Sunday when it plays host to Western Michigan in a 1 p.m. matchup at Chessa Field. Ohio will honor its four seniors - Liston, Murnane, defense Natalie Bechtel (Westlake, Ohio) and forward/defense Alex Stec (Medina, Ohio) -- for their contributions to the program prior to Sunday's match.
