Ohio Loses 1-0 in MAC Tourney First Round
Nov. 4, 2007 DEKALB, Ill. - In a repeat of last year's post-season, Northern Illinois ended Ohio's 2007 campaign by knocking the Bobcats out of the MAC Tournament with a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. The lone score of the game came in the 21st minute when NIU's Jenna Clausen scored an unassisted goal to give the Huskies the early lead. The first goal proved to be the game-winner as Northern Illinois goal keeper Lindsey Curnock recorded four saves in a clean sheet victory, holding Ohio scoreless as she did in the regular season. Northern Illinois defeated Ohio 1-0 on Oct. 19 at Chessa Field in the regular season. The Bobcats did not register a shot in the first half but totaled five attempts in the second stanza, placing four on goal. Northern Illinois took a total of eight shots in the quarterfinal contest and put five on goal. Erika Schmitt (Wyoming), Ohio's leading goal scorer in the regular season with seven, took three of Ohio's five shots, forcing Curnock to save two. Ohio keeper Jess MacLean (Loveland) recorded four saves in the 13th game this season the sophomore has allowed one goal or less. MacLean ends the season with 55 saves and a 1.12 goals against average. Last year Ohio was the No. 2 seed but lost to the No. 7 seeded Huskies in Athens. This year, the sixth seeded Bobcats were expelled from the post-season tournament by No. 3 seeded Northern Illinois. The Huskies will advance to the semifinals to take on the winner of No. 2 Toledo and No.7 Kent State. ---------------------- Joe Waltasti is the women's soccer contact for the Ohio media relations office.
