ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Women's Soccer announced an offseason addition to the program on Tuesday, adding Maggie Murnane to the roster for the 2012 season. Murnane is a transfer student from the University of Dayton.
A versatile player who has spent time at both forward and midfield, Murnane has played the last two seasons for the University of Dayton. The Flyers finished out their 2011 season with an impressive 19-3 record, capturing their third-consecutive Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship title in the process.
In her freshman year at UD, Murnane was named to the Preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and saw action in 12 games for the Flyers, accumulating 225 minutes. She appeared in six matches during the 2011 season.
Prior to her time at Dayton, Murnane played year-round for her club team, Eclipse Select North 91-92, which she helped lead to the Illinois State Championship in 2006, 2008 and 2009. She was named a Regional Finalist in 2006 and Regional Champion in 2008 and 2009 and led Eclipse to the National Finals in 2008 and a National Championship in 2009. The Eclipse team was also crowned Disney Champions in 2006 and 2009. Murnane was an honor-roll student, a member of the National Honor Society and named a State Scholar at Libertyville High School.
"We are very excited to have Maggie join our program this winter," said head coach Stacy Strauss. "The winning experiences she's had, both with Eclipse and at Dayton, will benefit our team immensely. Additionally, her individual strengths including her size, post-up play and finishing ability will be a real threat to our opponents and help us find the back of the net with greater consistency."
Murnane, a 5' 8" Libertyville Illinois native, will be ready to suit up for the Bobcats for the 2012 season. Ohio finished the 2011 season with a 7-11-2 mark that included a 4-5-2 record in Mid-American Conference play. The Bobcats made their third consecutive MAC Tournament appearance and were beaten by Toledo in the first round.
