Soccer Earns Academic All-MAC Honors

Toye Famodu had a strong year for the Bobcats, both in academics and athletics

ATHENS, Ohio - Toye Famodu of Ohio Women's Soccer earned a spot on the 2011 Academic All-MAC Team, the Mid-American Conference announced on Monday. The senior is no stranger to academic success, as during the 2011 season she was also named a conference Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Famodu, a 2010 Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention, had a very strong 2011 season for the Bobcats. The forward led the team with five goals (four of which came in conference play) and also registered two assists. Her 12 total points were the most on the team and her 17 shots on goal ranked second. One of Famodu's best games of the season came on Oct. 16 against Bowling Green, when the senior scored one goal and provided one assist in Ohio's 2-0 victory over the Falcons.

A Global Studies major with a concentration in Latin America, Famodu (Bloomington, Minn.) minors in Anthropology and Spanish while maintaining an impressive 3.826 grade-point average.

Ten Bobcat student-athletes earned Honorable Mention status for their impressive academic and athletic seasons. These individuals are listed below.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
