ATHENS, Ohio -This summer, student-athletes on the Ohio University soccer team will be writing a weekly blog series about their lives as Bobcats. The series began during the week of May 13 and will carry all the way through the first five games of the 2013 regular season.

For this week's installment, rising redshirt freshman Sasha Haverchak (Akron, Ohio) and rising senior Natalie Bechtel (Westlake, Ohio) write about the third week of summer break away from Athens.

These past three weeks since I have been home have been pretty laid back. Everyone on the team knows how psycho/obsessed I am when it comes to lifting and working out, so I have been doing that independently almost every day. With the leg injury that I have, I've been finding new ways to get fit: spinning classes and swimming among them. By the end of the summer, I might just have to try out for the swimming team at school!

This past weekend, I started working for a fancy hotel right down the street from me. I'm a "pool attendant" so I get to clean, fold towels, check people in, etc. I'm doing that about four times a week for several hours so it keeps me busy. My sister also went to her first prom this past weekend, which is crazy because it feels like just yesterday I was going to prom! I can't believe how fast time is flying by. My mom's birthday was also this week (the 28th), so the family had a fun time celebrating that.

So far everything has been real great and I'm hoping I get to visit campus within the next couple of weekends to check in with some of the girls. So much has changed because the first semester last year I was very homesick and struggling to adjust to school, but now I didn't want to come home for the summer! But I plan to continue working to get fit in other ways, making some money, and just enjoy life/summer before preseason starts. I can't wait to get back and start the season!

Natalie Bechtel
This whole summer I am at home and most of my days are very similar. When I go for a run I like to run to a place to do something else so I'm not just running in circles. Often I'll find myself running to my old high school track, which is two miles away from my house. Once I get there I run some sprints and then run home. Also, I like to run to my country club because there is a nice workout room where I can work with some weights or an elliptical machine when my legs begin to hurt.

I have a job as a server so I am very tired lately. On Sunday I worked seven hours and found that standing for that long is really hard, for me at least. I like work and I have met some nice people at my summer job. I tried walking home from work once and it's about seven miles, so it took me about two hours!

Other than work and working out, I am sleeping a lot, which is awesome! Also, I have gotten to hang out with my best friend from home who is going back to school in a week. I'll also spend time hanging out with my family and watching movies or doing other things like that. I have really enjoyed being home and I am very happy that it is a much longer break than normal.
