ATHENS, Ohio –This summer, student-athletes on the Ohio University soccer team will be writing a weekly blog series about their lives as Bobcats. The series began early in May and will carry all the way through the first five games of the 2013 regular season.
Rising sophomore midfielder Brieanna Charlebois (London, Ontario) and rising sophomore defender/midfielder Leah Sandercock (Strongsville, Ohio) continue the series with their entries for the week of June 17.
My 2013 Summer Break by Brieanna Charlebois
This summer has been great so far! It was strange being away from Athens at first but it’s also been great to be back home in Canada and it didn’t take long for me to fall back into my usual routines. It’s been great seeing everyone from home- for most it’s been a whole year- and catching up on their lives.
Although it has been nice having some time off from school, the summer training has kept me pretty busy. I usually do my workouts with my sister Alex, as she also plays soccer (for Pittsburgh University), and I must credit her for really helping whip me into shape! I have also been playing soccer about five times a week for the London Gryphons, a local W-League club. It’s been a lot of fun and has given me the opportunity to get game-ready for the fall. I hope that all of this will help next year and I am really excited to get back to Athens, start working with the team, and begin the 2013 season!
My 2013 Summer Break by Leah Sandercock
My summer has been going great so far! It has been really nice to spend time with family and friends between working and working out. Although we haven’t had the best weather here in Strongsville, Ohio, I have still managed to spend a lot of time outside hiking with my mom, going to the zoo with friends, and a little bit of swimming (but the water was very cold!). I currently work at a craft store in town, where I spend a lot of my time in the art department by myself. This can get a bit dull at times, but it gives me some extra money so I can’t complain. Aside from working, I have been doing a lot of training. I have gotten some of my friends and former teammates to run, go to the gym, and kick the ball around. (I definitely miss my team, though!)
This weekend I am excited to take off work and travel down to Columbus with some friends to participate in the Electric Run. It is a 5k run at night with a TON of lights. It should be a lot of fun :). This summer seems to be flying by and it’s going to be preseason before we know it! I am looking forward to seeing all of my teammates (old and new) and seeing all of our hard work pay off.
