ATHENS, Ohio – Beginning Friday, the Ohio University women’s soccer team will embark on its second weekend of competition during the 2013 season. The Bobcats and first-year head coach Aaron Rodgers will host DePaul Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. before traveling to Eastern Kentucky for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
In their last game action, the Bobcats (0-1-1) came back from a one-goal deficit to earn a 1-1 2OT draw with Wright State Aug. 25. Redshirt freshman Sasha Haverchak (Akron, Ohio) scored the game-tying goal in the 67th minute. The goal was the first of her career and also the first in the head coaching career of Rodgers.
At Friday’s match, Bobcat fans will have the opportunity to enter their names into a raffle drawing to win two tickets to the United States Men’s National Team match against Mexico in Columbus on Sept. 10. The raffle drawing will take place during Ohio’s Sept. 8 home match against Morehead State. In order to win the prize, fans who entered in the raffle must be present at this match.
SHOTS AND CORNERS
Despite being outscored 2-1 during the opening weekend of 2013, Ohio outshot (25-21) and earned more corners (16-10) than its first two opponents. The ‘Cats also recorded 11 shots on goal to their opponents’ 10.
FIRST CAREER GOAL
Redshirt freshman Sasha Haverchak scored the first goal of her career and the Bobcats’ first goal of the season on Sunday afternoon against Wright State. Her goal was assisted by teammates Carly Manso and Maggie Murnane.
Gabby Hausfeld and Grace Campbell were the only two Bobcats who played all 200 minutes of Ohio’s opening weekend. These two central defenders played a large role in a defense which allowed just two goals in two matches.
The Bobcats have come out of the locker room with something to prove in each of their two matches in 2013. Ohio has recorded 16 of its 25 shots and 11 of its 16 corners in the second half of matches.
TWO SAVES FROM 300
Senior goalkeeper Mattie Liston became Ohio’s career saves leader during the final match of the 2012 season. At 298 career saves, she’s only two stops away from becoming the first Bobcat in program history to record 300.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS
-DePaul enters Friday’s match the owner of a 1-1 record. The Blue Demons lost at Valparaiso (1-0) to start the season before hammering St. Louis (4-0) on the road to end the first weekend of 2013
-DePaul averages 10 shots per game while limiting opponents to 8.5
