ATHENS, Ohio - Cathryn Rogers of Ohio Soccer has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The recognition marks the second time this season that she has earned weekly honors from the league.
Rogers had a fantastic week for Ohio Soccer, scoring both of the Bobcats' goals in a very important weekend of conference matches. The senior scored her sixth goal of the season and the 12th of her career in a 2-1 loss to Toledo on Friday night, putting the Bobcats back in the match in the 27th minute after trailing 2-0 early. Rogers played 81 minutes in the match.
She then scored the game-winning goal in a crucial 1-0 victory over Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon. The native of Etobicoke, Ontario, fired a shot from 30 yards out past Amy Carr to give Ohio the win. The goal was Rogers' seventh of the season and the 13th of her Ohio career, tying her for ninth place all-time in Ohio Soccer history.
Rogers played 79 minutes in Ohio's midfield during Sunday's win, playing a vital role in a victory which kept Ohio's Mid-American Conference Tournament hopes alive. The senior continues to lead by example on and off the field during her final season as a Bobcat.
Ohio will next be in action on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Kent State. The Bobcats and Golden Flashes will kick off at 3 p.m. in what will serve as both teams' final regular-season match of the year.
